HOPE (Harnessing Our Potential to thrive and Evolve) is an
initiative by the Belgian think tank Itinera Institute, which aims to develop
policy proposals in collaboration with youth organizations.

The project seeks
to involve and empower young people in a world full of uncertainty,
making them a full-fledged partner at the policy table. Each year, Itinera
publishes a NextGen Barometer, which uses existing data to provide a
comprehensive analysis of the lives of young people in Belgium. The barometer
assesses the position of young people across four domains: survival (including
mental health), development, participation, and protection.
The first NextGen Barometer gives Belgium a 'code
yellow,' which means that the basic rights of young people are generally
guaranteed, but there are structural challenges. One of the main areas of
concern is the mental well-being of young people, which is increasingly
under pressure. The barometer is intended to serve as a strategic compass to
make policymakers aware of these problems and encourage them to invest in youth
as a full-fledged generation with rights to well-being, participation, and
protection.
